The Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest is characterized by its high levels of biodiversity, being one of the most bio-diverse hotspots on earth (18% and 10% of the entire bird and plant species inhabit the Ecuadorian Amazon jungle, respectively).
Some of the species visitors can see during their journey in this mysterious place are the Amazon river dolphin, the jaguar, the black caiman, the golden-mantled tamarin, the capybara, as well as a great variety of native birds, such as the harpy eagle, the yellow-tufted woodpecker, the crimson-crested woodpecker, the white-throated toucan and the blue-and-yellow macaw. According to an Ecuadorian agency report, the Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest is home to about 25,000 vascular plants (5,000 of which are endemic – species seen nowhere else in the world), 1559 birds, 402 amphibians, 380 reptiles and 324 mammal species.
